Sorry I've been inattentive to this blog. Things got really crazy around here and I lost my train of thought on the whole Jude study. I should be back up and running next week, unless someone else wants to step in with another brilliant idea.

Something to Ponder
Steve sent me a link to this article. I definitely think it ties in with Jude - since Jude is all about the condition of the church, the people in it, and the world.
Can some of this predicted collapse be caused by Verse 4? Do Christian doctrines fall into this category as well?

Let's Get Started
OK, I'm back from my knitting retreat. Time to focus back on Jude.
Any comments on the first two verses?
To me, they are fairly self explanatory, but I could be wrong. Jude is clearly addressed to Christians (one Bible I have says an "unknown congregation"), and I do believe it is meant as much for us as it was for who received it at the time it was written.

Lent
We interrupt the regularly scheduled Bible study for... Lent.
Today's message, at the church we have been attending, was on the sin of gluttony and the companion virtue of self-control. Gluttony doesn't just apply to food, but really to any area of over-consumption in our lives (ex: shopping, idle activities, entertainment, smoking, environmental resources, drink). Over-focusing on not doing something can be just as much an issue as doing it.
One of the scripture references was Matthew 6:31:33
We need to set up an "enough zone" - "a limit I place on myself to control my consumption."
As part of that, we were challenged to a Lenten fast. (Matthew 6:16-18)
I'm going to pass on TV News... what are you doing?

Haven't Forgotten
I haven't forgotten this blog. I just can't find the notebook with information I wanted to share. As Steve will attest, this might take a bit.
Feel free to talk amongst yourselves.

Why Jude?
OK... So Ruth is in, anybody else?
I chose Jude because every time I read it, I am hit with how spot on it is.
My choice of translations are NIV and REB. NKJV is nice, but the ending verses lose some of the punch of the others. I might also check out NRSV.
More to come.

New Topic
OK, this blog seems to have stalled a bit. I have a new idea... please read Jude in the version of your choice.
